PROJECT UPDATE — 23 SEPTEMBER 2026

Following our limited premiere screenings earlier this year, I want to acknowledge the delay in bringing the current iteration of 4 THA LUMANA’I to its wider online release and accompanying digital edition.

4 THA LUMANA’I is an evolving creative project more than a decade in the making, growing from personal journey, research and community collaboration across multiple forms.

Commissioned through the PMN Moana Reo Fund, supporting the preservation and promotion of Pacific languages and cultures, this latest iteration includes a 37-minute film bringing Hip Hop and traditional Sāmoan oratory into conversation, alongside a separate blockchain-enabled edition exploring digital ownership, provenance, royalties and community participation.

Since the premieres, continued artistic refinement and a rapidly evolving technological landscape across blockchain, AI and digital infrastructure have required parts of the release to be reconsidered and simplified.

The priority remains simple: keep the cultural and artistic purpose at the centre, and ensure the technology serves the work.

The film will be publicly accessible online, with the optional digital edition alongside it. A confirmed release date and final details will be announced shortly.

I’m deeply grateful to the cast and production team, the Hip Hop and diasporic Sāmoan communities who have shaped this work, and everyone who has continued to follow its journey.
I look forward to bringing it home shortly.
